Que. What are the guidelines for nomination and election of members to the MC? Should the person be a society member for some years or within his 1st year of society membership can he can be nominated to the MC? What are the rules in terms of number of years as society members for secretary and chairman?

The guidelines for election, co-option, nomination/appointment , eligibility of members to the managing committee is stated in Bye-law nos. 87b, 114,116,118, circular of the State cooperative election authority dtd 19/09/2015 for co-option. Sections 154B-20,154B-23 of the New Chapter in the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act 1960. After formation of society, at the First General meeting a provisional committee is elected, if it fails to elect provisional committee then the Registering authority nominates the committee for a period of one year. After this
generally in a co-operative society a member is either elected or co-opted to a Managing Committee. Nomination/appointment is made by the Government if it has contributed to the share capital of the Society. There is no bar for a member of a co-operative housing society to be elected to the Managing Committee within 1st year of becoming a member. There is no rule of years of membership to become a
Secretary or Chairman.
